Planting design
Whether you’re an avid gardener or not, no garden is complete without plants. Bringing colour and texture into any space, large or small, plants provide countless benefits to both you and local wildlife. If you ask us to design a garden without any plants, we will politely refuse the work!
Who is the border planting design service for?
Consider this service if you are thinking of:
- Completely redesigning your garden
- Adding borders to a landscaped garden without any plants
- Improving established plant borders because you’re unhappy with them
- Dealing with problem areas in your garden, e.g. boggy areas, privacy issues, etc.
We can create a planting scheme to suit your garden, including soil conditions and light levels. The plants chosen will be valued for their seasonal interest, texture, colour, and robustness. The scheme will also be based on your desired maintenance level and how green-fingered you are!
The planting scheme will focus on creating the right atmosphere in your garden. From neatly clipped hedges for structure and winter interest, to swaying grasses and flowers for a sense of summer romance, a planting scheme will always be tailored to suit your needs and tastes. And, at the same time, our aim will be to provide as much food and habitat for any visiting wildlife.
Creating a planting scheme is a time-consuming and technical service calling on our creative skills, plus our extensive horticultural knowledge and training. As such, it forms a large proportion of your garden design fees. Planting design is included in the fees quoted for our design and build service. However, planting design can be offered as a standalone service or added to the concept design stage. A fee for the planting plan will be detailed in the initial quotation and will generally be based on the size of area to be planted (Note: this fee does not include the supply of plants).
You will be provided with visuals showing the plants to be used, and a plan detailing their positions in the borders. You will also receive a list of botanical names and the quantity of plants you will need. You can then either buy the plants yourself, or we will quote for the supply and labour to correctly plant them to RHS horticultural standards. We source our plants from top UK nurseries – generally, the cost per plant tends to be more competitively priced compared to buying plants from a garden centre.
